Like all skateboard wheels longboard wheels are made of urethane, they are distinguished in the diameter (in mm) and the durometer (a) which is the level of hardness. Unlike other skateboard wheels there is another important factor, which is the style one wants to skate. Talking about "slide" and "grip" here. Soft wheels have better grip, but they're slower. Hard wheels have better slide-ability, but they transfer more vibration. High-speed downhill riders should choose harder wheels, as friction might cause softer wheels to crack. The "rule of thumb" says: The bigger and the harder a wheel is, the faster it is.
