At least as important as the deck, the trucks and the wheels are the perfect bearings. Each wheel contains two of them. Skateboard bearings are rollerbearings which consist of an outer race (ring), an inner race and the rolling elements (the balls). Many manufacturers highlight the quality of their bearings with a high "Abec" grade. Don't get that wrong! "Abec" has nothing to do with speed, quality, raceway finish, workmanship or the bearings ability to stay clean. Important factors are the processed materials and the workmanship. Most skateboarders use steel bearings which offer a well balanced combination of speed and durability. Especially for vert- and poolskating ceramic bearings can be a real alternative as they are extra fast.
